Willie's first day in his new home
We just picked up Willie today. He is a Brittany.
The Brittany was named for the French Province in which it originated. Bred as a gun dog, the Brittany is a pointer classified by the AKA as a sporting dog.
Brittanys are excellent bird dogs, taking naturally to the field. Breed standard height for an adult Brittany is 17-1/2 to 20-1/2 inches; Willie is at 17-1/2 now, close to his full size. (We hope!)
The breeding lines in many sporting dogs has split, breeding either for field performance or the show ring.
Many Brittany breeders still strive for the "dual" Brittany (i.e., good in the field and the ring).
Willie has many champions in his pedigree, and Sherry wants to show him in the ring. I am more field oriented and while I don't know if I would ever show him,
I intend to continue his field training.
Please be patient while the pictures load...
